General Ship Repair’s work was unre-
lated to the nuclear material aboard
the vessel.
Looking Toward
the Future
As far as the company’s fifth genera-
tion, it’s too early to say whether
they’ll carry on the business — both
Ryan and Chaz Lynch have children at
or under the age of 5.
“For now, we’re just trying to keep
the company running as efficiently as
we can,” Ryan Lynch said. “We operate
on our two 1,000-foot dry-docks and
keep tugboats and barges coming in
for repairs. We’re always upgrading our
pier services too.”
In fact, General Ship Repair recently
received a MARAD grant that it will
use to build a hut where steel for
repairs can be blasted and painted.
The grant will also cover some new
blasting equipment.
If the past 100 years are any indi-
cation, General Ship Repair has found
its comfort zone and will continue
to steer a steady course for another
century to come.
