Rescue Team
Receives Coast Guard Appreciation
Captain David O’Connell, Sector Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Maryland and the National Capital Region, stopped by the World Trade Center Baltimore Feb.
21 to present a letter of appreciation to Maryland Port Adminstration (MPA) Executive Director William Doyle and MPA staff as well as other state and federal agencies (U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District, Maryland Department of the Environment, Maryland Transportation Authority Police) that were involved
in assisting with the Evergreen Ever Forward incident last year.
The Ever Forward ran aground in the Chesapeake Bay in March 2022. After 35 days and following extensive collaboration by multiple partners, it was refloated.

Gov. Moore Names Wiedefeld
as New MDOT Secretary
Paul J. Wiedefeld was sworn in as Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) on March 2.
As Secretary, Wiedefeld oversees MDOT’s six agencies – the State Highway Administration, Maryland Transit Administration, Motor Vehicle Administration, Maryland Aviation Administration, Maryland Port Administration and
Maryland Transportation Authority. He leads operations and maintenance of state highways, bridges, tollways, transit systems, motor vehicle licensing, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and the Port of Baltimore. Upon confirmation, he will serve as Chair of the MDTA Board, the Maryland Port Commission and the Maryland Aviation Commission, and as a member of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board.
