For cargo that will continue on its way via truck chassis, PAC has recently implemented a new system called Pre-Advise that is designed to smooth the handover process. “The trucking companies and dispatcher now log their moves
with us prior to arriving at the terminal,” Schmidt said. “The trucking company enters the date they’re planning to come, and whether they’re bringing back an empty container or picking up a new load. They also give us information on which boat is carrying their load. When the truck arrives at Seagirt, their RFID [radio frequency identification] tag is read by our gate system that feeds into our TOS. That lets us know this trucker’s here, and the clerk will then let them know where to pick up their import and drop off their empty.”
On the trucking company’s side, Schmidt said, “we have a database for truckers to check to make sure there are no activities that need to be done before they can leave, like inspection by CBP or charges that need to be paid. Having
