Once at the terminal, the trucker “will have a Bill of Lading number and the terminal will then release the container to the trucker,” Connor said. “From there, it can be delivered to wherever the importer wants it to go.”
All in all, Schmidt said, keeping the Port’s terminals operating smoothly requires constant cooperation with the entire Port community, including with steamship lines, brokers and freight forwarders, clerks, longshoremen and trucking companies.
“We have to make sure we have the right workforce for each day, and the right equipment,” he said. “It’s all about communication.”
